Proper candle care can significantly enhance the longevity and enjoyment of your candles. Here are some essential tips to keep your candles in tip-top shape:
Ensure Even Burning:
- When lighting a new candle for the first time, allow it to burn for at least 3 - 4 hours. This ensures that the entire surface of the candle melts evenly and prevents tunneling (where only the center burns down). Candles have memory!
- Avoid extinguishing the candle before the entire surface has melted.
Keep It Clean:
- Regularly check for soot and debris inside the candle container. Remove any wick trimmings or other particles. Please remove any large flowers before burning.
- Debris above the wax can ignite and create multiple flames, potentially overheating the candle.
Trim the Wick:
- Before lighting the candle, ensure the wick is the recommended length (usually around 0.25 inches). This is to be performed before EVERY burn.

- Trim any excess wick to prevent uneven burning and ensure a clean, even flame.
Mindful Extinguishing:
- When putting out your candle, do so carefully. If the candle is in a jar, use a candle snuffer to extinguish.

- Alternatively, use the lid to extinguish. Blowing too hard can cause wax splatter.
- You can also dip the wick into the melted wax using a wick dipper.
Retire Your Candle:
- Stop using a candle before it completely runs out of wax.
- Retire it when there’s about 1/4 inch of wax left in the vessel.
Remember, candles are designed to burn for 3 to 4 hours at a time.
